Shame on me? Shame on you!

I have been wanting to write about the devastation of Hurricane Katrina for days now. I just didn't know exactly what to put into words. I found my words this morning.
I am going to let the media take care of all the horror reports and human interest stories. They have the first hand information.
What I would like to focus on is those of us that were not affected and are pointing fingers and laying blame.
I keep hearing people coming down on the President and our Federal Government for not doing enough, or not moving fast enough.
Here is what I have to say about that. Why should we as American Citizens count on the government? Why should we spend energy ranting and raving saying what other people should do when we can use the energy to help ourselves?
Instead of pointing fingers we need to get together and help any way we can. Americans are not just the government. We are the people of America. We are strong, resourceful, and generous.
Please don't say white people this and black people that. Don't play the victim. Play the victor and fight. If you cannot afford to give, do some fund raising. Donate something. Donate your time, your prayers, your talents, donate your resources and forget about what other people are or are not doing.
Before you criticize others, do something, anything and help. It's easy to sit on the couch and criticize. It just doesn't accomplish anything.
If you would like to make a donation you can do so at Convoy of Hope or The Salvation Army or perhaps you would like to use some of the creativity God gave you and come up with a way to donate all your own. Whatever way you donate, thank you.

Nice post... you are right.
So many people just sit around and complain about this or that. It's the Fed's fault... It's the state's fault.
I learned a good lesson a long time ago. Don't complain unless you have a constructive suggestion or a better plan.
Thank you for that.
You are one of the wise ones...
Well, I do need to commend you for your writing skills even though I don't agree with your comments.
Now on your comments. You are fairly clueless. FEMA exists for just these circumstances and we as taxpayers fork over our hard earned dollars for them to do their job. So if they screw up- yep they need to be criticized.
I like your comments on Katrina. You should visit my blog as well about the same subject.
However, I agree with unclefire on the idea of protecting "FEMA". But the blame-game is still out. reality has it that there are those who should have done more - and they all reside in Louisiana.
